Herman B. Sobel, Hackensack High School class of 1949, returned a form in 2005 and I spoke to him on August 1, 2011, and this is the information he gave on his service.

Herman B. Sobel served in the United States 1st Marine Division, Baker Company, 1st  Battalion, 7th Regiment, and rose to the rank of Corporal during the Korean War from 1951 to 1952.  Herman B. Sobel was in combat during his service and he received the American Defense Medal,
Korean Service Medal, and a Presidential Unit Citation.

Herman B. Sobel mentioned very humbly that he was up for a Bronze Star but the officer did not see the incident so it was dropped.  Makes one wonder how many acts of heroism go unnoticed in the heat of battle, just a thought.

Let us never forget the servicemen’s sacrifice.

Herman B. Sobel also filled out a form in 2005 on his brother Harold Sobel who served in the Army during World War II.
